TV unit and bookcase either side of a fireplace
A living room with a tiled fireplace and an empty alcove either side of the chimney breast. The left alcove became a TV unit: three panelled cupboard doors below, shelves above and a space sized for the television. The right alcove became a bookcase, with cupboards underneath finished with green inset panels. It is the same room as the picture-frame panelling on the long wall.

How it went together
01
Base and back panel first
Day one: the base cupboard went in with its panelled doors, and a full MDF back panel lined the alcove so the shelves have something solid to sit against.

Cut in the room
Boards cut to size on trestles in the middle of the room.

Frames and shelves
The front frame went on next, then the shelves, set at heights worked out around the television and the soundbar.

Room inside
Each cupboard has a shelf inside. The doors open wide enough to get a games console or a box of cables in and out.

The bookcase side
The right alcove got deeper shelves for books and the same cupboard base, this time with green inset panels in the doors.
