Alcove units either side of a chimney breast
A living room with a cast-iron fireplace and two empty alcoves. One side became full-height shelving, the other shelves over a two-door cupboard. Both are lined and built in MDF and run right up to the cornice, so they look like they were always there.

How it went together

Alcoves lined
Both alcoves lined with MDF first, giving a square box to build into.

Base and cupboard
The base goes in next, with the cupboard section at the bottom of one alcove.

Cut in the room
Shelves and panels cut to size on site, so every piece fits the alcove it goes in.

Full-height shelving on one side, shelves over a cupboard on the other.
