Floating walnut desk with hidden drawers
A small room with a window that wanted a desk without legs. The desk spans wall to wall under the window, fixed to a batten along the back wall and into the walls at each end, so it floats. Four drawers sit within its thickness and pull out from underneath, with no handles on show. The drawer boxes were made the day before, and the desk went together and was fitted in a day.

How it went together

01
Drawer boxes first
The four walnut drawer boxes were built the day before outside the workshop, with tape on the edges to keep them clean until fitting.

02
Level line first
On site, a level line across the room and a batten fixed along it to carry the back of the desk. Everything after this hangs off that line.

03
Top on, runners under
The top went on first, with walnut dividers underneath carrying the drawer runners. Once the drawers are in, none of it shows.

04
Checked and fixed
Level checked along the length before the last fixings went in, then the drawers were fitted.

05
Drawers in
The drawers slide in under the top and pull out from underneath, with no handles on show.
On video

What customers say
From my Google Business Profile.
“Raf has created bespoke cabinetry and panelling for us in our kitchen, living room and bedroom as well as some additional smaller pieces. Everything has been done to a very high standard and we couldn't recommend him more highly!”
Yasmin“We were really impressed by the quality of the work Raf did. Also with his punctuality. He designed and installed our fitted wardrobes to a quality that he would have done in his own house I think. Really cared about the outcome. We feel so lucky to have found a carpenter like him in London.”
Marjan“Raf helped us with a bespoke floor to ceiling bookshelf for our first floor landing. He gave us his time to discuss how it would be built and more importantly how he would get it into our house and up to the first floor. He built the bookcase exactly to our specification and design. … The result is a bookcase that fits the space perfectly. We are very pleased with the quality and workmanship of Raf's work.”
