Alcove shelves with a lit shelf
The alcove had a few old shelves on brackets. They came out and in went a proper unit: a low cupboard with two flat doors, open shelves above it, and a light in the shelf over the cupboard so it glows in the evening. The parts were painted before fitting, and the whole unit finished white to match the walls and the window shutters.

What was there
Four shelves on brackets. Useful enough, but nothing hid the clutter and the bottom was wasted.

Back to the wall
Old shelves out and a new base set in so the unit sits level.

Painted first
Doors and shelves painted on trestles in the room before they went in. It is far easier than painting inside the alcove.
