Wall-to-wall bookcase with a radiator cover
A whole wall for books and storage, with a radiator in the middle of it. Three bays of shelves run wall to wall with panelled cupboards underneath. In the middle bay the cupboard front is a radiator cover: two doors with grille panels that let the heat out and open up when the radiator needs bleeding.

How it went together
01
Uprights first
The tall uprights went in first, one each side of the radiator, so the middle bay is built around it.

Cut from a plan
Every board was cut from a printed sheet plan on the bench, so nothing gets cut twice.

Round the radiator
The middle bay frames the radiator with space all round it, so the heat can rise behind the grille.

Laser for the shelves
A laser level throws a line across the bays to set the shelf heights.

Shelves in
Shelves in all three bays and the cupboard bases fronted by the end of day two.

Grille doors on
The grille doors went on last, with the panelled cupboard doors either side.
