Three cupboards and a seat under a window in Llandeilo

Not every window seat needs lids. This one, in Llandeilo in Wales, is a run of cupboards under the window with a seat across the top, and you get into it from the front.

The cupboards under the window with the doors shut

It fills the window recess from wall to wall, and the skirting stops at each side of it. Three flat doors, no panels and no moulding. Plain doors keep it simple. The seat top runs the full width and sits a little proud of the doors along the front edge.

All three doors open, with a shelf across the wide cupboard

Inside there are shelves. The left and middle doors open onto one wide cupboard with a shelf across it. Getting in from the front means nobody has to clear the seat to find something.

The doors hang on concealed hinges. I put the hinge hole centres 21 mm from the door edge and cut the holes with a hinge jig set to depth, so every hole matches the last and the doors line up across the front.

The 3D model on the job page is drawn in SketchUp at standard sizes, not measured ones. Open the doors to see the shelves, or take it apart board by board.
