A pantry cupboard on legs with upright slots for trays

Baking trays and chopping boards never stack well. Lay them flat and the one you want is always at the bottom. So this pantry cupboard, for a kitchen in East Finchley that needed more storage, has a row of upright dividers. Trays and boards stand on edge, side by side.

The pantry cupboard next to the fridge, both framed doors closed Both doors open: shelves, tray slots and cubbies

From the top down: shelves for jars and tins, a taller space for bigger things (a boxed food mixer in the photos), then six slots for trays, then two open cubbies below the doors. The slots are open at the front, so one tray slides out without moving the rest. The cubbies have no doors at all, so whatever lives there is in reach.

It is freestanding rather than built in. It stands on black legs beside the fridge, so the floor carries on underneath it.

Inside: shelves at the top, upright tray dividers, two cubbies at the bottom Close-up of the tray dividers and the cubbies under them

Two framed doors close away everything above the cubbies. Each has a moulding frame on its front, which is what stops a tall cupboard looking like a plain box. It is all MDF, 18 mm board with the back included.

Every photo is on the job page for this pantry.

The page also has a 3D model of it, drawn in SketchUp at standard sizes rather than measured. Open the doors to see the dividers, or take it apart.
