A storage bench that turns the corner

Short one this week. A long wall, a corner, and a client who needed somewhere to sit and somewhere to put things.

This is the drawing the client approved:

SketchUp drawing of the lift-up storage bench with its sizes

The numbers

  • 3000 mm along the wall
  • 1215 mm round the corner
  • 400 mm high, which is a comfortable seat height
  • 400 mm deep on the long run, 700 mm on the corner piece

That last one matters. The corner piece is deeper, so it becomes the big box for the bulky stuff.

Lids

Three lids, each on hinges, each with a finger hole so there is nothing sticking out to catch a leg. Lift one and the whole box underneath is storage.

Built in MDF with a simple raised panel on each front, ready for painting.
